Always Looking

I have always been looking

For comfort

In books,

In music,

Under my blanket,

On the sofa.

I have always been looking

For beauty

In words,

In people,

In the sky at dusk,

In thunderstorms.

I have always been looking

For home

In libraries,

In conversations

With friends,

In myself.

I have always been looking

For me.

  1. I love the repetition, and the movement from physical things to more abstract. Also all of those items quickly summon up images and connections for the reader; but all personal, making the reader take ownership. Love!

    • Thank you for noticing not just the words but also the formatting. I’m a sucker for formatting, I feel it adds to the depth of any piece of writing if done properly.
I’m glad you found it relatable. 🙂

  2. Saba, this is a gorgeous poem. I love the format, the repetition of “Always been looking,” the lists in each stanza, and the way you break the list into a single “me” at the end. It’s perfect.

BTW, several slicers in this group are also part of the Ethical ELA poetry group. Kim Johnson and I are among those in the original group. Maureen Ingram, Denise Krebs, Fran Haley, Margaret Smith, Britt Decker, Kevin Hodson also participate. A couple others drop in when they can.

    • Thank you! 😊

Wow, that’s quite a cohort. Denise Krebs commented on another post of mine and also mentioned Ethical ELA. I’ve subscribed and am looking forward to #VerseLove! 🤩
