Back to Work

I’m happy to announce that the first day back after Spring Break went smooth as butter for me. [insert girlish squealing]

Not that I was particularly worried, a tad bit nervous (refer to my previous slice), but the nerves died down once I was got on the bus and claimed my seat. It was the first step towards the regular routine and it was quite easy to take. I plugged in my earphones and pressed play on my current audiobook (‘Devil House‘ by John Darnielle – that I have DNF’d now, can’t take any more of it). I’d missed this commute because it’s the only time I get to indulge in audiobooks or podcasts.

Arriving at campus and walking into my classroom felt like coming home after a long trip. The tables and chairs arranged in groups, the purple calendar on my table, the bucket of board markers – everything in its place. The only thing amiss was my list of “Frequent Answers” that had been wiped from my whiteboard – much to my students’ amusement.

Today was a light day for me, with only two classes. I spent my free time getting ready for the week ahead and just being glad that I was back in my element. Teaching was never the career I planned for – but I love it more every day.

I hope today’s smoothness carried on into the rest of the week too.

  1. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that each new day this week is a good one. Like you, I’m also returning back to school – and thankfully, tomorrow is also a lighter day for me. Fingers crossed for both of us!

  2. A smooth first day back is definitely worthy of celebrating! And I sometimes feel like I should get a job with a longer commute just so I can join the podcast bandwagon.

  3. One of the things that was hard for me during virtual school was not having the commute, thus not having my regular podcast doses! Glad it all went smoothly.

  4. Glad you had a great smooth start to the last leg of school year. Commute, no matter how much we crib about it being long… it is truly valuable with all that we can possibly get done during that time.
